At the swearing-in ceremony of the newly constituted National Police Council, Vice President Prof. Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang, who now chairs the council, made a strong call for a cultural shift in law enforcement.

Speaking from Jubilee House, the Vice President emphasized that the police service must regain and maintain the public’s trust, and that starts with how officers carry themselves — in uniform and in action.

A Call for Professionalism and Integrity

She stressed that the uniform should not only signify authority, but also duty, discipline, integrity, and service to the people. The Vice President noted that the actions of a few should not be allowed to tarnish the legacy of the many who serve faithfully.

Reform and Renewal Ahead

As the newly appointed Chair of the National Police Council, Prof. Naana Jane outlined key priorities for the Council:

Restoring public trust in law enforcement

Uplifting professional standards within the service

Enforcing discipline and accountability at all ranks

Celebrating officers who serve with distinction and honour

She added that rebranding the meaning of the uniform is just as important as structural reforms and that the police service must become a source of pride for citizens, not fear or resentment.
