Abossey Okai Spare Parts Dealers Disappointed in President Mahama — Afenyo-Markin
Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin says spare parts dealers at Abossey Okai feel deeply disappointed in President John Dramani Mahama after he allegedly failed to honour his promise to remove import taxes on spare parts.
According to Afenyo-Markin, the dealers were hopeful that the policy would ease the high cost of doing business, reduce the burden of clearing goods at the ports, and ultimately make spare parts more affordable for consumers. However, he claims the President has not fulfilled the commitment, leaving traders frustrated.
The Minority Leader argued that the current tax regime continues to put pressure on spare parts importers, many of whom are struggling to stay afloat due to rising operational costs and fluctuating exchange rates. He added that the government must take the concerns of the traders seriously, as the spare parts industry plays a vital role in Ghana’s transport and informal sectors.
Afenyow-Markin urged the government to re-engage the leadership of Abossey Okai and provide clarity on the status of the promised tax reliefs.
