Cabinet Approves Recruitment of 6,100 Additional Teachers – Education Minister Haruna Iddrisu

Ghana’s Education Minister, Hon. Haruna Iddrisu, has announced that Cabinet has granted approval for the recruitment of 6,100 more teachers across the country. This major boost to the education sector comes as part of government’s commitment to improving teaching and learning outcomes in public schools.

Addressing the media, the Minister emphasized that the move is designed to close the teacher–learner ratio gap, particularly in underserved communities where shortages have affected instructional quality. According to him, the new recruitment will target basic schools, senior high schools, and specialized areas where staffing needs remain high.

Hon. Iddrisu noted that the Education Ministry has been working closely with the Ministry of Finance to ensure that the necessary financial clearances are secured for immediate deployment. He added that government remains committed to strengthening the education workforce, improving working conditions, and promoting equitable access to quality education.

“This approval demonstrates Cabinet’s recognition of the critical role teachers play in national development. It is a significant intervention to support our schools, enhance learning, and empower our young people,” he said.

The Minister further assured that recruitment guidelines and timelines will be communicated soon to ensure transparency and a smooth process.

The initiative adds to ongoing reforms aimed at improving infrastructure, teacher training, curriculum delivery, and quality assessment within the sector.
