Deputy Health Minister and Member of Parliament for Essikado-Ketan, Prof. Dr. Grace Ayensu-Danquah, has announced the introduction of a pioneering food distribution program dubbed the EKC Food bank, designed to support the most vulnerable in her constituency.
Aimed at the elderly, children, and families grappling with economic hardship, the initiative will collect and distribute staple foods and nutrition-rich items to those in greatest need. The project is rooted in Dr. Ayensu-Danquah’s commitment to promoting food security and reducing hunger across Essikado-Ketan.
“Food security means that all people in our constituency can have reliable access to enough safe and nutritious food to live healthy, active lives,” Dr. Ayensu-Danquah believes that the EKC Food bank will help build “a more productive population, support economic growth, and reduce the rising costs of health care linked to hunger and malnutrition.”
Beyond immediate hunger relief, the program also aims to stabilize local food prices and reduce poverty. By easing access to affordable food, Dr. Ayensu-Danquah believes the food bank will chip away at some of the systemic pressures affecting Essikado-Ketan’s most vulnerable families.
With this ambitious initiative, Dr. Ayensu-Danquah underscores her broader vision of integrating social welfare and public health, building a constituency where no one has to suffer from hunger.
