The Deputy Minister for Health and Member of Parliament for Essikado–Ketan constituency, Prof. Dr. Grace Ayensu-Danquah, has donated to the Essikado hospital a one of a kind anesthesia machine in the Western region, a move aimed at strengthening surgical and emergency care within the constituency.
Presenting the equipment, Dr. Ayensu-Danquah noted that the gesture forms part of ongoing efforts to enhance quality health delivery and ensure that health facilities are adequately resourced to save lives. She emphasized that access to reliable anesthesia equipment is essential for safe surgical procedures, emergency operations, and maternal health interventions.
“The machine that is expected to serve adult, children and new born babies will significantly boost the hospital’s surgical capacity, reduce delays in critical procedures, and ultimately improve patient outcomes,” she said. “Our goal is to make healthcare more responsive, efficient, and accessible for every resident of Essikado–Ketan.”
The initiative also aligns with President John Mahama’s Big Push Agenda, which prioritizes major investments in health infrastructure, medical equipment, and service expansion across the country. Under this agenda, government aims to modernize hospitals, strengthen primary healthcare, and bridge gaps in critical medical resources—especially in underserved communities.
Dr. Ayensu-Danquah reaffirmed her commitment to supporting the Agenda’s implementation at the constituency level. “Quality healthcare is a foundation for development. By equipping our hospitals, we are making sure Essikado–Ketan is part of Ghana’s broader transformation under the Big Push vision.”
Hospital authorities expressed gratitude, describing the donation as timely and transformative. According to them, the machine will help reduce referrals to larger hospitals, allow surgeons to conduct more complex procedures locally, and ensure faster treatment for trauma and obstetric emergencies.
The donation marks another milestone in the MP’s long-standing advocacy for better medical services and her continuous efforts to strengthen the health sector.
