The Supreme Court of Ghana has ruled against Speaker of Parliament, Alban Bagbin’s declaration of the four seats vacant with just two months to election by a 5-2 decision.
Chief Justice, Gertrude Torkornoo on Tuesday, November 12,2024 in a brief sitting ruled in favour of the plaintiff Alexander Afenyo Markins, declaring that the decision made by the Speaker was unconstitutional, therefore it cannot hold.
The reason for this verdict, she said, will be made available on Wednesday, November 13,2024.
The Majority Leader, Alexander Afenyo Markins and the Attorney General has told journalists that the speaker and the NDC lawmakers must abide by the Supreme Court’s ruling.
“It is an emphatic determination of the matter by the court and I expect the speaker to comply. He is law abiding, I have known him for a very long time, so I expect him to comply with the court’s decision. It was necessary that the Supreme Court came to this decision,” Attorney General on the court ruling to speaker.
