🚨 Nurses Could Face Jail Time If Strike Continues – Labour Expert Warns

The tension is rising in Ghana’s health sector — and now, there’s a serious warning: striking nurses and midwives could end up behind bars if they don’t call off their industrial action.

That’s according to Labour Analyst, Seth Abloso, who says the recent court injunction served via WhatsApp is not just a formality — it’s legally binding.

“If they ignore the court order and stay on strike, they could face jail time,” Abloso stated.

🩺 What’s Going On?

Members of the Ghana Registered Nurses and Midwives Association (GRNMA) are on strike over delayed payments and poor working conditions.

The National Labour Commission (NLC) took the matter to court and got permission to serve the injunction digitally — via WhatsApp.

Nurses are being urged to return to work immediately.

⚖️ What Does This Mean for Nurses?

If the nurses don’t comply, the court could see it as contempt, and that means:

Possible fines

Arrest or imprisonment

Seth Abloso warns that even though the nurses’ concerns are valid, defying a court order could bring serious legal consequences.

👥 What People Are Saying

Many Ghanaians are torn. Some support the nurses for standing up for their rights, while others worry about the impact on healthcare services across the country.
