Ghana’s 2025 National Cancer Forum Prioritizes Rising Cancer Burden
At the 2025 National Cancer Forum, Ghana’s health leaders placed a major spotlight on the country’s growing cancer burden, calling for stronger, coordinated action nationwide. The Ghana Health Service (GHS) is driving key interventions, including the development of a national cancer strategy and a comprehensive cancer register to improve tracking, management, and treatment outcomes.
Deputy Minister of Health, Dr. Grace Ayensu-Danquah, who shared her reflections on the forum, emphasized the need for deeper empathy and greater compassion in cancer care. She highlighted that beyond medical interventions, cancer patients require emotional strength, understanding, and consistent support.
During the forum, I also stressed the importance of empathy and extra care for patients undergoing treatment, noting that every Ghanaian battling cancer deserves holistic care both medical and emotional.
Special commendation goes to Mahama Cares (Ghana Medical Trust Fund) for providing critical financial support that is making cancer treatment more accessible and easing the burden on affected families across the country.
