Kufuor Criticizes Overstaffing in Government Ministries
Former President John Agyekum Kufuor has expressed strong concerns over what he describes as excessive overstaffing across government ministries and public sector institutions.
Speaking at a recent engagement, Kufuor stated that tasks meant for about 100 qualified workers are now being carried out by 500 to 1,000 people, creating layers of bureaucracy that slow down service delivery and place a heavy financial strain on the state.
Kufuor noted that this long-standing challenge continues to weaken efficiency in the public sector, arguing that Ghana cannot achieve meaningful development without a streamlined, performance-driven civil service.
He urged government leaders to adopt modern management practices, invest in capacity building, and ensure that recruitment is based strictly on merit and national need rather than political considerations. According to him, a leaner and more professional workforce is essential to achieving accountability and improving public confidence in state institutions.
