SHS Students Using Government-Distributed Tablets to Watch Pornography – Education Minister Reveals

The Ministry of Education has raised concerns over the misuse of government-provided digital learning tablets by senior high school students. According to Education Minister Haruna Iddrisu, some students have been using the devices to access pornographic content, undermining the purpose of the digital learning initiative.

The tablets were introduced by the government to enhance digital literacy and access to educational resources, particularly in remote and underserved areas. However, reports indicate that instead of utilizing the devices for learning, a number of students have exploited them for inappropriate activities.

Minister Iddrisu described the situation as alarming and emphasized the need for increased supervision, monitoring, and digital education to ensure that students use technology responsibly. “The objective of distributing these tablets is to improve learning outcomes, not to facilitate exposure to harmful content,” he stated.

The Ministry is now exploring measures such as:

  • Strengthening parental and teacher oversight over students’ tablet use
  • Implementing content filtering systems to block access to pornography
  • Educating students on responsible digital behavior and internet safety

This revelation has sparked discussions among educators, parents, and policymakers about the challenges of integrating digital tools in education while safeguarding students from online risks.

The Ministry of Education reiterated its commitment to digital learning and student safety, urging stakeholders to work together to ensure the initiative achieves its intended educational goals.
